The Turbomachinery and Pump Symposia, known as TPS, is a technical conference and exhibition for rotating equipment engineers, held from 19 to 21 October 2027 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, with short courses on 18 October. The organiser lists 216,000 gross square feet, more than 4,800 attendees and over 300 exhibiting companies from more than 40 countries, and its audited 2022 figures were 3,815 verified attendees and 274 exhibiting companies.
Why engineers and suppliers go
If you maintain or specify pumps, compressors, turbines or seals, TPS combines peer-reviewed technical sessions with an exhibit hall full of the equipment itself, so you can sit in a case study on a failure and then talk to the manufacturer on the floor. The programme is chosen by advisory committees of practitioners and covers maintenance, reliability, troubleshooting, new designs and lessons learned. The organiser names turbomachinery, pump, oil and gas, petrochemical, power, aerospace, chemical and water industries as its audience. In 2022 it ran 94 technical sessions, and 37% of delegates were decision makers.
Passes and prices
Prices on the registration page, set for the 2026 edition, give a sense of cost: a full symposia pass at $1,210 covers the exhibit hall, technical sessions from Tuesday to Thursday, exhibit hall lunches and the gala banquet dinners; a symposia day pass is $625; a short course alone is $1,100, or $1,900 combined with the full symposia. Full-time students and faculty attend free, with discounts for military personnel, and working journalists are admitted at no charge. 2027 prices and daily opening hours were not yet published when checked.
Exhibiting
A 10 by 10 foot booth (about 9 m2) costs $4,200 and includes two exhibitor badges with access to all technical sessions as well as the hall, plus exhibitor liability insurance. For 2027, payment is due in full by 15 May 2027, with a 50% refund available until 1 July 2027. The 2027 floor plan and the list of previous exhibitors from 2012 to 2026 are on the show site.
History and editions
TPS began as a 200-person Turbomachinery Symposium on the Texas A&M campus in 1972. The Pump Symposium followed in 1984, and the two merged into one event in 2011. The organiser says the event has now run for more than 54 years.
