NRG Park

Reliant Park in Houston gives event organisers a single 350 acre complex with a convention centre, a stadium, an arena and large outdoor lots, so a big trade show, its general sessions and any outdoor demonstrations can all stay on one site. The main building for exhibitions is Reliant Center, which the operator says offers more than 706,000 square feet (about 65,590 m2) of exhibit space that can be split into 11 halls. The complex was listed here as NRG Park and its official website now uses the name Reliant Park. It is county-owned property, and the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC) manages it for Harris County. The site sits inside Houston’s Inner Loop on the southern stretch of Interstate Loop 610 and is served by METRORail. For other events in the city, see trade shows in Houston.

Halls and floor space

Because all of Reliant Center’s exhibit space is contiguous and on the ground level, you can run one large show floor without splitting exhibitors across levels. The operator gives the total building size as 1.4 million sq. ft. Exhibit hall ceilings range from 25 to 60 feet and average 30 feet, which leaves room for tall stands and rigging. A 280,000 square foot marshalling area lets trucks queue off the street while they wait for the docks. If your show is bigger than one building, Reliant Arena and the outdoor spaces add more floor.

Conference and meeting rooms

Keeping your sessions next to the show floor saves visitors time. Reliant Center has 59 meeting rooms that the operator says can be set up in more than 100 ways. They average 1,200 sq ft (about 111 m2), have ceilings of 12 to 18 feet, and are on the ground floor and mezzanine level. The operator also mentions 2 major conference centres in the building. For big general sessions or catered functions, Reliant Stadium offers 125,000 square feet of configurable event space, a media lounge and two conference rooms that divide into four. Reliant Arena adds 5 meeting rooms on its second level. Room capacities by layout are in the operator’s floor specification sheets. These capacities do not include staging, podiums or head tables.

Getting there and parking

Visitors can reach the site by rail. METRORail’s Red Line stops at Reliant Park Station off Fannin, and guests walk from there to Gate 2. Visitors flying into George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) can take the 500 IAH Express to Downtown Houston and change to the Red Line. If you are driving, the operator lists 26,000 parking spaces across colour-coded lots, and parking can be bought in advance through JustPark. Reliant Center traffic uses Gate 10 at Kirby and McNee, while Reliant Stadium and Reliant Arena use Gate 9 at Kirby and Westridge. Reliant Center’s address is 8600 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77054.

Facilities and services

Reliant Center is built for heavy freight, which helps exhibitors with large equipment move in faster. It has 109 loading bays and 15 freight doors, and 9 of those doors let trucks drive straight onto the exhibit floor. On-site support for telephone and internet, electrical, and food and beverage is provided exclusively by the venue. The building has a fibre backbone for high-speed internet, on-site production and 120 TV monitors. Wi-Fi is free in the common areas and meeting rooms. Reliant Stadium has a retractable roof and 198 suites. Its club areas include the Champions Club, Club Level and Director’s Club. Certified EMS services are available at all Reliant Park events, and every building has first aid stations.
