If you buy, specify or sell warehouse, factory or distribution equipment, MHI runs the two US shows where you can see most of it working in one place. ProMat is held at McCormick Place in Chicago in odd-numbered years, and MODEX is held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta in even-numbered years, so there is a major MHI show every spring. MHI calls itself the nation’s largest material handling, logistics and supply chain association. It says it has more than 1,050 member companies and 18 Industry Groups, and it is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
MHI show dates in this directory
- ProMat: 19 to 21 April 2027, McCormick Place, Chicago
- MODEX: 3 to 5 April 2028, Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta
Both dates match MHI’s own events calendar and show websites when we checked. Confirm them again before you book stands or travel, and our guide to checking official show dates shows you how.
How the two shows fit together
Because ProMat and MODEX alternate, you can plan a two-year cycle rather than choosing between them. MHI created the National Material Handling Show in 1948, and that show was later renamed ProMat. MODEX followed in 2012, with a wider supply chain focus. Both shows are built around working demonstrations of handling equipment and systems, with education sessions and keynotes on the show floor. For ProMat 2027 MHI lists more than 1,200 exhibits, 200 educational sessions and three keynotes.
Other MHI events are smaller and mainly for members. The MHI Spring Summit runs from 16 to 19 May 2027 at the Charlotte Convention Center, with keynotes, networking and Industry Group meetings. MHI also holds an annual conference each autumn, which in 2026 was in Palm Springs, California.
What MHI membership gives exhibitors
If you exhibit regularly, membership can pay for itself. MHI says members get discounted booth space at both ProMat and MODEX, a saving that equals or exceeds the cost of membership for many of them. Corporate membership is $2,900 for a calendar year. MHI lists these other member benefits:
- A free microsite and discounts on MHI advertising aimed at more than 100,000 manufacturing and supply chain executives
- The chance to join one of 18 product-specific Industry Groups, which collect statistics, develop standards and publish technical guidance
- Market data from Prestige Economics and Oxford Economics through MHI’s Market Intelligence Center, plus the Annual Industry Report
- Free use of the auditorium and meeting rooms at the Water Oak Conference Center in Charlotte
Members can also join MHI Communities for young professionals, marketing staff, chief executives and HR teams, which run virtual networking and receptions at the shows.
About the association
MHI was incorporated in 1945 to serve its members and promote the material handling industry. Its early product sections covered industrial trucks, cranes, hoists, monorails, racks and shelving, loading dock equipment, lift equipment and conveyors, and those groups still operate. In the late 1980s it moved from Pittsburgh to Charlotte and became the Material Handling Industry of America, before going back to the name MHI. MHI also runs a learning centre, a leadership programme and a college industry council.
