The Turbomachinery Laboratory is a research centre of the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station, part of the Texas A&M University System, that organises the Turbomachinery and Pump Symposia in Houston each year and the Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium every two years in Kuala Lumpur. Its Houston event lists more than 4,800 attendees and over 300 exhibiting companies.
What it means for exhibitors and delegates
Because the organiser is a university research lab rather than a commercial events company, its events are built around an engineering programme chosen by advisory committees of practitioners. If you sell pumps, compressors, seals or condition monitoring, you exhibit to engineers who come to learn about maintenance, reliability and troubleshooting, and your two exhibitor badges per booth include the technical sessions. Students and faculty attend free, which helps if you recruit graduate engineers.
Events it runs
| Event | Where | Next dates |
|---|---|---|
| Turbomachinery and Pump Symposia (TPS) | George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston | 18 to 21 October 2027 (short courses on 18 October) |
| Asia Turbomachinery and Pump Symposium (ATPS) | Kuala Lumpur | every two years |
| Short courses | Houston and Kuala Lumpur | through the year |
TPS began in 1972 as a 200-person Turbomachinery Symposium on the Texas A&M campus. The lab added the International Pump Users Symposium in 1984 and combined the two into a single event in 2011. Its audited 2022 figures were 3,815 verified attendees, 274 exhibiting companies, delegates from 44 countries and 94 technical sessions. The Asia event is presented as an extension of the Houston symposia.
Research and teaching
The lab researches the reliability and performance of turbomachinery, the rotating machines that add energy to or take it from fluids, from windmills to rocket engine turbopumps and natural gas compressors. It offers graduate engineering education through Texas A&M’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and draws on the research staff of the Texas A&M College of Engineering and the Engineering Experiment Station.
Contact
The symposium office is at the Turbomachinery Lab, Texas A&M University, 1485 George Bush Drive West, College Station, Texas 77845, phone 979-845-7417, email [email protected]. Exhibitor services can be reached on 979-845-2671.
Comparable organisers
Like other non-profit and association organisers, such as the Offshore Technology Conference, Inc., a Houston non-profit founded in 1969, the lab runs one flagship Houston show. Commercial groups such as Informa Markets and Clarion Events run many sectors at once. See trade shows in Houston, the oil and gas sector, shows in the United States and our note on choosing an international trade show.
