Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall A is a multi-purpose exhibition hall and arena at 7-1 Okihama-machi, Hakata-ku, on the Hakata Bay waterfront in Fukuoka. It opened on 24 August 1995 as Marine Messe Fukuoka and took its current name on 1 October 2019, ahead of the separate Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall B, which opened on 1 April 2021. Both are run by the Fukuoka Convention Center, a general incorporated foundation that also operates the Fukuoka International Congress Center and Fukuoka Kokusai Center in the same convention zone. The building works as an exhibition hall for large trade shows, an arena for sports such as volleyball and a concert hall, and the operator gives its maximum capacity as 15,000 people. In this directory, FOOD STYLE JAPAN Kyushu and Manufacturing World Fukuoka are held at Marine Messe Fukuoka.
The multipurpose exhibition area
The main floor is an 8,000 square metre multipurpose exhibition area with a ceiling up to 30 metres high and a floor load of 5.0 tonnes per square metre. The operator’s standard exhibition plan fits 412 booths of 3 by 3 metres. For stage events the same space seats 13,000 or 11,000 depending on the layout, and the seat plan totals 11,093 seats, 2,011 on the second floor, 4,834 on the first floor and 4,248 temporary floor seats. The building has two basement levels and four storeys, a total floor area of 40,631 square metres on a 28,191 square metre site, and a titanium seam-welded roof. Wi-Fi covers the whole building.
Second floor space, conference rooms and the sub-arena
- Second floor exhibition space, 1,100 square metres around the arena, floor load 0.8 tonnes per square metre.
- Oceans Mall (Umi-no-Mall), a glazed promenade 130 metres long and 1,400 square metres facing the bay; selling goods here or in the entrance lobby carries a charge of 5,500 yen per square metre per day.
- Large Conference Room, 410 square metres, 500 theatre style or 250 school style, 4.6 metre ceiling.
- Conference Rooms 1 to 4, from 20 theatre style (Room 4, 44 square metres) to 130 (Room 2, which divides into 2-A and 2-B).
- Sub-arena on the third floor, 851 square metres with a 12.8 metre ceiling, and an 81 square metre reception room.
Waiting rooms, two organiser rooms, a ticket counter, showers and a second floor restaurant, Fuyou, complete the building.
Hire rates
The Hall A rate sheet (tax included, no date printed) charges 2,750,000 yen on a weekday and 3,025,000 yen at weekends and on public holidays to use the multipurpose exhibition area for an exhibition from 8:00 to 21:00. Build-up and breakdown days cost 1,925,000 and 2,117,500 yen, and each extra hour between 21:00 and 8:00 costs 253,000 yen on a weekday. The Large Conference Room is 110,000 yen a day and the sub-arena 55,000 yen. Electricity, gas, water, cleaning, security and waste are billed on top. The booking steps run from an availability check and application through a deposit, an advance payment and a planning meeting one month before, to final settlement. Our guide to planning an overseas exhibition budget lists the other costs to plan for.
Getting there and parking
Nishitetsu buses run to the Marine Messe-mae stop from Hakata Station (Nishi-Nippon City Bank-mae, stop F) and from Tenjin (Solaria Stage-mae, stop 2A). The operator’s 2023 access guide gives about 10 minutes on the No. 80 or BRT bus from Tenjin, and describes the articulated BRT bus looping Tenjin, Hakata and the convention zone about every 15 minutes. From Fukuoka Airport the venue suggests the subway to Hakata (5 minutes), then the bus; a taxi takes about 15 minutes from the airport, 10 from Hakata Station and 6 from Tenjin. The nearest subway stations are Gofukumachi, 12 to 15 minutes on foot (the English and Japanese pages differ), and Nakasu-Kawabata, 18 minutes. By car, use the Fukuoka Urban Expressway to the Higashihama or Chikko ramps. Visitor parking holds about 1,200 cars at most, with about 90 spaces for organisers. Car Park 1 (about 700 cars) opens 8:00 to 22:00 and charges 100 yen per 20 minutes up to 1,000 yen a day; Car Parks 2 (328 cars) and 3 (171) charge 600 yen once a day, cash only. Vehicles over 5.0 metres long, 1.9 metres wide or 2.1 metres high cannot park, and accessible spaces in Car Parks 2 and 3 can be booked from two weeks to two days ahead. If you are flying in, the same guide lists flights of 1 hour 40 minutes from Tokyo Haneda, 1 hour 15 minutes from Seoul and 50 minutes from Busan, and 2 hours 17 minutes by Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka.

Organisers do not always say whether a show uses Hall A or Hall B, so check the floor plan before you ship stand materials (our guide to shipping exhibition equipment abroad covers the paperwork) and confirm dates with the organiser, as our guide to checking official show dates explains.
